This course offers an in-depth exploration of the fundamental principles related to the properties, states, and composition of matter. Students will investigate the distinction between pure substances and mixtures, while also delving into essential safety practices both in the laboratory and at home to ensure a secure learning environment. The course emphasizes the examination of physical and chemical properties of matter, including qualitative and quantitative properties, and explores the concepts of mass, volume, and density.

Additionally, students will explore the relationship between density and buoyancy, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how different materials interact with fluids. The course further examines the four states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, and plasma) and delves into the Kinetic Molecular Theory, Boyle's Law, and Charles's Law, providing a foundation for understanding the behaviour and transformations of matter.

Moreover, students will delve into the historical development of atomic theory and explore the fascinating world of atomic structure, including subatomic particles such as protons, neutrons, and electrons. The course introduces the concept of quarks and leptons, shedding light on the fundamental building blocks of matter. Students will also explore elements, their symbols, atomic numbers, and atomic masses, while developing a solid understanding of atoms, elements, and molecules.

By the end of this course, students will have acquired a comprehensive understanding of matter, including its properties, states, and composition. They will be equipped with knowledge about the behaviour of gases, the principles of atomic structure, and the fundamental concepts of elements and molecules, empowering them with a strong foundation in chemistry and a deeper appreciation for the nature of matter in the world around them.
